Bug Dystopia (2025)

Work Description

Bug Dystopia (2025) is a single-channel video that stages a cross-species conversation among humans, the ramie moth, and artificial intelligence. “Bug” here refers not only to the ramie moth, but also serves as an analogy for system failure.

The moth repeatedly collides with the luminous architecture of the city, trapped within a world designed by humans and misled by its sensory intelligence. Using AI-generated voice, on-site recordings, and 3D environmental scans, the work forms another kind of navigational field in which the moth’s disoriented movements intertwine with the emotional hallucinations of algorithms. Is a synthesized survival signal more artificial than the sound of a moth striking glass? When we find ourselves empathizing with a system’s delirium, to whom does that empathy belong?
