Statement

This project is a performative experiment exploring alternatively affective connections between humans and “nature”. Wandering around as an entry point, the sensory experiences emerge from my visits to the mountain forest of Ningbo (China) from the city. The images I projected create a threshold space for the body entanglements between the isolated trees and the human being. Utilizing a translucent gauze as an anchor, the fluid body movements in the encounter with the projections of the city trees, bring out the mutual dialogues between the isolated living beings that struggle against the conflicts between running from the city and the coming for the “nature”.

The body of the performer is the medium of interacting and communicating with the land. As the images switch on the gauze, I either prostrate myself on all fours or lower myself to whisper with the leaves, stones, and withered trunks of the trees, and the spiritual connection to the plants flows and intertwines with each other during the process of the physical contact that occurs. The work tries to explore how people as individuals connect with nature spiritually, attempts to re-frame “intimacy” and “strangeness” in the relationship, and raises the issue of the instability of mutual transformation of the conflicting identities of the invaders and the aborigines, as well as opens the audience’s mind about the proximity between seeing and “happening.”
